Dr. Tim C. Liu, O.D.

Utopia Optometry is owned and operated by Dr. Tim C. Liu in La Verne, California. Founded in February 2012, Utopia Optometry aims to provide the friendliest, most personal eye care service in the cities of La Verne, San Dimas, Glendora, Pomona, Claremont, Upland, Azusa, and Diamond Bar. Utopia Optometry strives to offer the most affordable, quality, fashion forward eyewear to our patients.

Growing up in Walnut, California, just 15 minutes south of La Verne, Dr. Liu’s dedication and passion for providing excellent eye care started when he first started wearing glasses in the 4th grade. He has an extremely high nearsightedness (-10.00) with astigmatism, and understands what it’s like not being able to see clearly. He was amazed at how well he was able to see with his first pair of glasses and contact lenses and vowed to help others to achieve the same benefits.

Dr. Liu started in the field of optometry immediately after high school as a dispensing optician and eyewear consultant at a local optometry office, where he learned the importance of customer service and patient satisfaction. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Arizona State University in Tempe, Arizona. Dr. Liu then studied four years in Berkeley, California where he earned his Doctor of Optometry degree from the reputable University of California, Berkeley, School of Optometry.

After receiving his Doctorate in Optometry, Dr. Liu had the opportunity to practice with the most experienced LASIK surgeon on the west coast for three years, and expanded his knowledge and skills in optometry and ophthalmology extensively.

Dr. Liu is now a board certified optometrist who is therapeutically licensed to diagnose and/or treat eye diseases such as pink eye, conjunctivitis, eye allergies, eye pain, corneal abrasion, glaucoma, cataract, macular degeneration, diabetes, and dry eye, in addition to prescribing eye glasses and fitting contact lenses. Dr. Liu also specializes in fitting hard-to-fit contact lenses for patients with astigmatism and presbyopia.

In February of 2012, Dr. Liu acquired the La Verne office of Drs. Tatum and Trezza and founded Utopia Optometry. He spent 6 weeks to update the 14 year old office and gave it a complete make-over with the most up-to-date technology and eyewear in eye care. Dr. Liu believes quality eye care should include providing patients with a comfortable environment and the newest technology.

When he is not in the office, Dr. Liu enjoys activities such as going to the beach, paddle boarding, karaoke, and traveling. Dr. Liu is also a basketball fanatic, and enjoys watching Laker games especially during the playoffs. Dr. Liu also goes to the gym three times a week and believes that a healthy diet with adequate exercising is essential to a healthy life and healthy eyes!
